I've gotten a lot of direct messages and emails lately asking about this video, and I thought it was time to share it with you all! The Utah International Pageant is in four short weeks and I cannot wait to step on that stage and share my platform with everyone. My platform has changed many times and I have finally perfected it into something that I love with my whole heart. Stand Up! Dare to be Different isn't just a platform I created. It's something I have experienced in my own life through my journey of being bullied. It has taken years for me to finally talk about it, but I am ready! To learn about my story stroll down:)
My Story
Throughout middle school and my first few years of high school, I became a target by a social group of girls. They each had a constant goal to criticize and bully me. On most occasions their behavior involved physical, social, or verbal abuse. I often felt scared to go to school each day knowing what i might be faced with. Over a series of different events, my perception began to change. One day, I woke up and knew the only way to prevent this from continuing was by taking the matter into my own hands. I knew I couldn't do it alone, so I started to make new friends and surround myself with positive and uplifting people. I began to take initiative to STAND UP and no longer be the vicim. After constant personal evaluation and seeking advice from others, I realized I was not alone. There were many teens like me who had also been bullied and we chose to support each other.
STAND UP! Dare to be Different soon became my motto. Instead of being a victim, I became a victor. The anxiety that I developed over time began to dissipate, and my worry of how I was viewed by others became less important. I didn't need to change who I was to fit in with the crowd. Instead, I set and example and became a positive influence. Also, I embraced my insecurities and began setting new goals which gave me a new direction. Serving others, Trusting myself, and focusing on the positive aspects of my life were key components of rising above a situation that was out of my control. I made the decision to just be me, an that simple choice changed my life.
If you are in a similar situation, I encourage you to follow my simple steps to STAND UP and Dare to be Different.
